Common Volume Conversions

How many millilitres in a pint (UK)?

1 UK pint = 568.261 ml (just over half a litre). A UK pint is larger than a US pint (473 ml). This matters when following American recipes — if a US recipe calls for 1 pint of cream, that's 473 ml not 568 ml.

How many litres in a UK gallon?

1 UK (imperial) gallon = 4.54609 litres. This is different from the US gallon (3.785 litres). When fuel economy is quoted in mpg, the UK uses the larger imperial gallon, so UK mpg figures are always higher than equivalent US mpg figures for the same car.

How many fluid ounces in a litre?

1 litre = approximately 35.195 UK fluid ounces. Note that a UK fluid ounce (28.41 ml) differs slightly from a US fluid ounce (29.57 ml). Most food labelling in the UK uses millilitres, but fluid ounces still appear on some imported products.

What is a cubic metre in litres?

1 cubic metre (m³) = 1,000 litres exactly. This relationship is one of the elegant features of the metric system: 1 litre is defined as 1 cubic decimetre (a 10 cm × 10 cm × 10 cm cube). Cubic metres are used for large volumes like water tanks, swimming pools, and gas supply.
