Pace & Speed Conversions Explained
How do I convert min/km to km/h?
Divide 60 by your pace in decimal minutes per km. So a 5:00 min/km pace (5.0 decimal) = 60 ÷ 5 = 12 km/h. A 6:30 min/km pace (6.5 decimal) = 60 ÷ 6.5 ≈ 9.23 km/h. The relationship is: speed (km/h) = 60 ÷ pace (min/km).
How do I enter pace as minutes and seconds?
Enter pace as a decimal: divide the seconds by 60 and add to the minutes. So 5 minutes 30 seconds per km = 5 + (30 ÷ 60) = 5.5. Enter 5.5 in the min/km field. The converter shows the MM:SS equivalent as a hint below the input as you type.
What is a good running pace in min/km?
Beginners often start at 8:00–10:00 min/km (6–7.5 km/h). A comfortable recreational jog is around 6:00–7:30 min/km. Club runners typically train at 4:30–5:30 min/km. Elite marathon runners race at around 2:50–3:00 min/km (20 km/h). There's no "correct" pace — it depends on fitness, distance and goal.
How do I convert min/km to min/mile?
Multiply by 1.60934 (the number of kilometres in a mile). So a 5:00 min/km pace = 5 × 1.60934 ≈ 8.05, which is 8 minutes 3 seconds per mile. In decimal form, the converter handles this automatically.
What pace do I need for a sub-4-hour marathon?
A marathon is 42.195 km. To finish in under 4 hours (240 minutes), you need to run each km in under 240 ÷ 42.195 ≈ 5.688 minutes — that's 5:41 min/km (9:08 min/mile), or about 10.55 km/h (6.55 mph). A 30-second positive split buffer puts your target pace at around 5:35 min/km.
